NewMan Fitness Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization providing advocacy, community outreach, education, and resources for individuals impacted by health gaps caused by differences such as income, education, race and ethnicity, and location.

Syreeta L. Hill, Secretary

 

Syreeta L. Hill is a resident of Portsmouth, VA, a proud graduate of I. C. Norcom High school, and alumni of Norfolk State University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in General Business. She is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Gamma Delta Omega Chapter in Portsmouth, VA.,

 

As a former member of St. John Baptist church in Portsmouth, VA where the Pastor is Rev. Robert Earls, and currently attend Shekinah Kingdom Church under the leadership of Elder Cedric D. Rouson and Bishop A. Ray Rouson as the overseer, Syreeta continuously serves the community through the various positions she has held within the church.

 

Syreeta has worked with the city of Portsmouth for several years as a Deputy Clerk, Circuit Court; Administrative Assistant for the Magnet Facilitator; and Clerk II for Portsmouth Social Services. She currently serves as the secretary for NewMan Fitness Foundation, Inc. to provide Nutrition, Exercise and Wellness to many neighborhoods and communities.

Chandra D. Perry, Treasurer

 

Chandra D. Perry is a native of Charleston, South Carolina, currently residing in Virginia. She received her former education within the Charleston County School System. Currently attending Strayer University working on the completion of her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. The proud mother of two awesome adult children, three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She has taken on the attributes of a leader in her family, community, ministry, and business. Her passion is helping people wherever she can.

Chandra is a licensed Realtor in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. The Founder & CEO of Administrative Virtual Suites and CD Perry Realty with Canzell Realty. She is the epitome of Professionalism, with her strong administrative, financial and customer service skills; Chandra has the ability to provide professional and personal assistance to all she comes in contact with. 

Chandra realizes that her life has crossed many different barriers and because of this, she was able to connect with NewMan Fitness Foundation. As she continues to put all her trust in God, she knows that everything is going to work out for her good. A woman of God who is here to serve the people of God.

Sandra Alban, Board Member

 

Sandra L. Alban was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, located in Central America.  She came to the United States in 1991, at fifteen years of age, and was raised in the Bronx, New York. In 2002, she relocated to Virginia Beach, Virginia.  For ten years, Mrs. Alban worked as a home visitor for Hispanic and military families in the Tidewater area. Several factors influenced Mrs. Alban to become an educator.  Due to the increasing Hispanic population in this area, Sandra felt that there was a demand for highly qualified world language teachers here.  As a native and fluent Spanish speaker, she believed her abilities were well-served to promote this knowledge to her students.

Sandra Alban’s accomplishments include a Bachelor's Degree in Science, awarded in 2002 from Herbert H. Lehman College in Bronx, New York.  Her area of concentration included Psychology, with a double minor in Early Childhood Education and Women's Studies.  Her credentials also comprise a Master’s Degree in education from Cambridge College in 2009, in the professional school counseling program.   In 2012, she completed the “Career Switcher Program” in cooperation with Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.  Her Postgraduate Professional Teaching License in World Language-Spanish was then obtained.  The “Teaching English to Students of Other Languages” (TESOL) endorsement from Regent University was also earned in June 2016. . 

Sandra is an active member of several educational organizations such as the Foreign Language Association of Virginia (FLAVA), the American Council of the Teaching of Foreign Language (ACTFL), and the Southeastern Virginia Board of Certified Teachers Regional Network (SEVA).  Concluding, it has also been a great honor and privilege for Sandra to be recognized as the “2017 Citywide Teacher of the Year” for Portsmouth, VA. 

Leslie Spruill, Vice President

Leslie Spruill is an AFAA Certified Group Fitness Instructor and NASM Certified Personal Trainer. She has been active in the Suffolk community, where she lives, with a big focus on Education. Over the years she has served on multiple PTA boards and other committees within the Suffolk Public School system.

In 2011, she became a fitness instructor and has organized and participated in many community fitness events. Raising money and awareness for various causes to include disaster relief, Breast Cancer, The Foodbank of Southeastern VA and the Eastern Shore, and the Tidewater Autism Society of America.

Her fitness career has enabled her to bring fitness classes into the schools, for their family fitness nights, to local Girl Scout troops, The Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Virginia, to seniors at various senior community complexes and to the City of Suffolk, VA in partnership with the Suffolk Public Library.

She has a passion to help those with intellectual disabilities and seniors, who too often are overlooked. As a member of the NewMan Fitness Foundation’s board, she is helping to serve this community and fulfill its mission to help individuals increase their quality of life through NUTRITION, EXERCISE and WELLNESS.

Tanecia Newman, President

Tanecia Newman, Founder and CEO of NewMan Fitness Foundation, is a native of Roanoke, VA and resides in Virginia Beach, VA. She has established roots in the community through her philanthropic work which includes, leading a host of fitness events that raises awareness on social and economic issues; providing access to free or low-cost fitness programs to underserved communities and underprivileged populations; and volunteering her time and talents to various community outreach events with a variety of nonprofit organizations.

Tanecia is a multi award-winning fitness instructor. Experiencing physical, emotional, and mental transformation during her own personal journey of healing, Tanecia teaches her dance fitness classes with passion and purpose. Dance and movement is her God-given talent that she turned into a career by becoming a licensed instructor and starting her own mobile fitness business.  She quickly realized that her true purpose was to help individuals increase their quality of life through Nutrition, Exercise, and Wellness; focusing on the economically disadvantaged and communities that did not have regular access to fitness classes or access to healthy foods. ​

Through her (transformation) speaking engagements, Tanecia shares her story of being a two-time survivor of domestic violence and how making the decision to "Move On Purpose" and apply self-care in way of exercise helped her to become an overcomer. Tanecia believes in using her platform and resources to encourage, inspire, and empower children, women, and families to live a healthy life; filled with confidence, self-awareness, and self-acceptance.
